Did you ever have a passion that you have practiced throughout your life? An opportunity that you had in the back of your mind but you did not pursue it because of time, money, fear or other commitments?
For me, that is yoga teacher training.
I have practiced yoga for over 20 years. In that time, I have had several yoga teachers, friends, and even acquaintances tell me to pursue teacher training. It crossed my mind a few times to go through with it to deepen my practice, to learn more about the origins of yoga, and to help others with their practice.
I have had some unique experiences in my life pivoting my successful full time marketing career (twice) first, to start a consulting business while raising my sons, and again to start Brighten and Bloom and to have flexibility to be with my daughter.
In 2007, when my mother unexpectedly and suddenly passed away when my son was 3 weeks old, I turned to yoga to help me through a combined postpartum period filled with grief.
I am particularly sensitive to the importance of precious family time and the understanding that time is a gift.
In a sense, I feel my practice of yoga saved me, brought me up, and carried me through:
-grief
-anxiety
-pregnancy
-postpartum
-motherhood
-raising children
-career
-mental health
-aging
I feel fortunate to connect with local studios, teachers and other yogis in the community. Yoga is an ever-evolving practice of self-discovery and self-transformation. And, it truly makes my heart so happy to watch my daughter genuinely grow to love yoga.
As a gift to myself and in the spirit of dreaming big and pursuing passions, in the very early mornings, late nights or rare quiet moments in my days of 2023, I embarked on my yoga teacher training journey.
I am sharing here that I am officially a certified yoga teacher for a few reasons,
- To celebrate, 200 hours was challenging and exciting and required self-discipline to practice and learn each day. I couldn’t be happier about this experience.
- I share in the hopes that my story encourages you to take action and to pursue a dream or passion that has been sitting in your mind or in your heart. You are not too young or old and it is not too late to follow your heart and make your dreams happen.
- I believe what I learned through the training will help me to enhance the offerings available in the Brighten and Bloom community and I am eager to serve and help more people looking to live healthier, balanced lives.
